Week 4 - Independent Study

Descriptions
Security Building
My new installation is a security building in which the model is kept. The main idea is the home security senses. It has flagstones that light up and sound when enemy (you) walk on it and it has a sliding garage door. Out back is a sliding door (which sadly I didn't use to show you) which opens automatically when the player (you) walk near it. You will see sand bag barriers and razor wire barriers to complete the 'security' feel.

Player and AI
I have made a flowgraph making the player be in 3rd person at all times to avoid the material glitch in the arms. I had to enable the cross hair to make it easier to shoot. I have also disabled all suit functions except for the default armour mode to make the game more realistic. AI have animation files and I have assigned animations for each officer in the building. AI crew members will now shoot when they sense the player is near while the default crew officers. I was going to add dialogue, but my computer just wouldn't take all the load.

Vehicle
A fancy guy needs a fancy car, so my custom vehicle the reventon, is a fast car able to reach speeds of 110 mph in crysis. I have set the lights to turn on automatically at a certain time. I have also made a flowgraph where you can view your current speed. In the video, as I had keep it under the time limit and the size for uploading, I showed little of it.

Sketchup Model and Description

“A MUTATED FORM OF WAR THAT EXISTS IN A PURE STATE OF PERMANENT PREPARATION FOR AND ANTICIPATION OF ACTUAL WARFARE.” - Paul Virilio

For my model, I took on the idea of the mutation as one of its definitions:
Mutation: Change or cause to change in form or nature.

I created a trophy artifact which symbolizes recognition for valour in war,
something which is gained following the victory of a battle. As the nature of the very trophy was taken from an artifact, it is an irony in itself. Artifacts are highly sought out by many people, in my case, the North Koreans.

To elaborate further, the artifact was won through war, to gain peace yet because of its great value, the owners of the artifact are constantly in a "pure state of permanent preparation for and anticipation" that war will break loose because of this very artifact they gained. This in turn relates to how an object gained and given to receive peace, will mutate, and become the very reason for war.

The Artifact is kept inside the prototype factory in one of the glass cabinets... scientists are trying to find out what powers the core in the artifact.

EXPERIMENT ONE - Week 1 Independent Study

Pachube Research

For this research, I chosen to find a feed more suited to my interest rather than choose one of the more popular feeds. I have decided to do the feed of the University of Lapland, a live sensor feed from the Interactive Environments Lab - http://pachube.com/feeds/7728

Though frozen at the moment, this feed records any time of motion occurring inside the room, light in terms of sensing whether it is on or off and the light levels and records of the temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit along with the humidity level of the room.

As this experiment is called "Pure War," I find this interesting as it kind of reminds me of
the basic necessity of a security system. This gives me the idea of creating a security facility in the map with many light and motion sensors which are triggered when the player is nearby. I will be adding interactive things, maybe try a device to turn on and off the security system for a mission of some kind, there will be enemy guards and obstacles to make the process challenging.

UPDATE:
I think this pachube is more suited to my idea of a security system:

Home Monitoring

Domotics project: Two Arduinos control the home and measure stuff, they talk to each other using I2C. One of them communicates via USB with an apache webserver which interfaces the house with my iPhone or any web-enabled device at the time it sends data to Pachube for data logging. It all runs on backup batteries in case there is a power outage. A third Atmega uC watchdogs the two main units if they ever freeze.
Features:
Alarm control and monitoring,
Temp sensing,
Ambient light sensing,
Powers lights, audio equipment, curtains, A/C, heating.
It combines the sensors wisely, i.e: If it's dark but senses motion, then turns lights on for a while, or if it's dark inside but light outside then open the curtains and so forth...
IR local remote control,
Full Web control and monitoring,
Webcam monitoring (through the web interface)
I2C realtime clock,
Serial enabled LCD display for local user-interface,
Uses arduino internal EEPROM to remember last status of everything in case the watchdog resets them.
